Just want to start my first post as captain saying a big thank you to Jon and Wilf for all their efforts last year as the management team. I hope Andy and my year is even more successful. Lets go and win the cup at Ulsan this year.

We will continue to be playing at Gye-rim Elementary School every Sunday, so I hope to see lots of you down there next Sunday. I will be continuing Jon practice of sending you all a message on Sunday mornings so you have no excuse. If you are there next Sunday and you didn’t get a message, tell me as maybe I don’t have your number or I input it wrong.

cheers to everyone who made it to the meeting last Saturday.

to briefly summarize then, key points decided were..

    - New Captain: James
    - New Vice-captain: Andy
    - Subs: One full year, 200,000, 6-month block 110,000, one month 20,000
Subs to be paid to Jeff ASAP. You can ONLY pay per year, per 6 month, or until the end of your contract (if you know you’re leaving Korea) None of this drip-drip “here’s 20 for this month” kind of thing please.
    - KFA: Yes we will play in KFA tournies
    - Kits: We’ll stay with the Guiness kit for at least one more year. Guys without a kit can get one once tournaments begin, provided they regularly turn up for tounry games, and have paid dues.
    - Pitch: We’ll continue to book and play at Gye-rim field for as long as they’ll let us.
    - Expat teams: We should try and make games against eg Jeonju a fairly regular thing. Plus we can try to netowrk out to find other teams to play.
    - Selection committee: Has been axed

I think that’s kind of everything. I’ll be setting James up with Admin priviledges on this account as soon as I finish typing this, and so from now on I’ll leave you in his capable hands.

    cheers

So this coming Saturday, we’ve the full field booked at Chosun Uni (thanks Wilf) and after we’ll have our big 2010 New Season team meeting. Everyone should attend.

    Game
We’ve got the field from 1pm to 3pm. If we can get enough guys, we’ll use the full field and play 11-a-side. So meet at the Chosun uni field between 12:30-12:40 so we can do a head count and sort out some teams.
I know a couple of guys are still away on vacation, but hopefully most folk are back and we can get enough players.

    Meeting
After the game, people can either go for a cheeky beer straight after, or a mok-yok, or head home and come back again. Either way, let’s have everyone back to Basta by 6:30pm and we’ll have the team meeting. Even if you’re injured/busy and can’t make the game, make sure you are at the meeting. It’s the only time of the year we actually sit down and talk about team stuff, so this is everyone’s chance to have some input about what the team does, how it’s run etc.

    Meeting Agenda
Key things to discuss will be:

    -next captain

    - next vice-captain

    - team dues for 2010

    - selection committee. Do we need one, and if so who will be on it?

-field issues. We’ve booked Gye-rim ’til the end of May. Do we need a bigger field, or keep booking that place as long as we can? What do we do on weekends when 25 people want to play on a 7-a-side field?

    - kit. We’ve got 10 new guiness kits to give to new members. what’s the criteria for getting one?

    - KFA. Do we want to keep on playing in KFA tournaments?

    - expat teams. How often do we want to arrange games vs other expat teams (eg jeonju?)

    - any other business… feel free to post any ideas below

Please spread the word and make sure we get the whole team there. After I reckon some meat (and soju?) at Chosun back gate, then probably onto downtown wherever.

    cheers

This Sunday (21st) we’ve usual football at Gye-rim field starting from 1pm.

However, at 2pm a Korean team want to play us at ‘a nearby field’, so we’ll give that a go and see what happens. So we’ll have 1pm-2pm on the small field at Gye-rim, and then switch it up to the bigger field at 2 for a game vs this Korean team.

This means we’ll only have an hour on the small field, so we should make sure we’re ready to start on time, and can’t really afford to be getting started at 1:15 like we’ve done the last few weeks. So try and get there early please - 12:40ish - so we can pick teams and actually start playing at 1pm. Cheers.

Next weekend (27th) we’ve full-field at Chosun and then the new season team meeting. I’ll post about it on Monday.

We’ve managed to book the chosun pitch for the 27th. The time is 1 to 3 pm as was expected. Hope that will do. The fields are numbered 1 and 2, we’ll be playing at filed 1, the one on your left if you are facing the library. ~peace~

So my wife and I went to visit Gye-rim school today to sort out the field once our current booking expires end of February. Helpfully, the principal was busy, so instead of talking to us and doling out his grand philosphy, he just gave a ‘yeah-whatever’ reply to the admin staff and it’s all good. So we managed to book it for three more months, during March April and May.

The admin staff had a chat with us, and explained that one of the reasons we could book for three more months was (not mentioning the tasty box of strawberries we took along) that whilst other teams try to play on after their time is up, or leave a mess, we just turn up, don’t cause hassle, finish on time and then clean up after. So let’s keep it like that in the future and hopefully we’ll be able to keep playing there!

For every Sunday in February we’re playing at 1pm at the gye-rim elementary school field. Don’t bother texting me to ask if footie is on - it is, just turn up at the field. cheers.

Plus I’ve pencilled in Sat. Feb. 27th for our start-of-2010-season team meeting. Details to be arranged, but everyone on the team should try and attend - we all sit down and sort out important things like who will be the new captain, and how much dues we need to pay and whether we want to play KFA tournaments etc. Then we’ll go for meat and soju… More details later, but keep the date free …

A few guys will have heard about this already, but thought I’d put an announcement on the website, that Richard (aka Mr. Afolabi Olanrewaju Richard) is getting married this coming February 13th. On behalf of the team, I’d like to congratulate him and his wife, and wish them every happiness together. I’m assuming we’re all invited, but since the wedding is going to be in Nigeria, it could be a bit tricky to get to. Nonetheless they have a (very nice-looking) website , with an online guestbook, so I’d invite everyone to go leave a short message of congrats. Richard and his wife will be returning to Korea a little later in the year. Cheers. Jon

Happy New Year all. Just to update about a couple of things….

    Sundays
Football will be at 1pm at Gye-rim elementary school throught Jan and Feb. We’ll be there whatever the weather. There won’t be any competitve football until the new season gets underway around the end of Feb, start of March.

    Gye-rim Field
Our Gye-rim field life span may be drawing to a close. My wife and I went to the school the other week, to book the field for Jan and beyond. Unfortunately, there’s a new principal in charge who has different ideas from the old guy. We had to go sit in his office to meet him and listen to him. New head doesn’t like teams block booking the field, and only wants teams to be able to book it for a month maximum. The admin staff have realised that’ll make way more work for them, so twisted his arm into allowing two-month bookings though. So we’ve booking it for two months all through Jan and Feb.

Don’t know whether we’ll be allowed to continue after that though. The new head told us specifically that we were at the back of the queue - first dibs went to other schools, then other education groups, then community groups, then local residents, then church groups (really!) then other random football teams and (implicitly) then foreign football teams. We’ll go and visit him again in Feb to see what our chances are.

Because of this, we have no chance of changing the time - so unfortnately it’ll have to stay 1-3pm.

    New Kits
We’ve finally got some new Guinness kits. They’re a little different from the originals (missing some black trim) but otherwise look pretty decent. Guys who’ve been with the team for the best part of the year will get a kit. For any guys who’ve joined the team in the last few months, I think if you commit to the team for another 6 months following the meeting at the end of Feb, them you’ll get a kit then. We don’t have many, and they’re expensive and a pain in the arse to get hold of, so we can’t just give them out to anyone who’s happened to turn up the last couple of weeks and then will disappear again in a month’s time - they’ve got to go to guys who are committed to the team. Hope folk understand and can wait a few more weeks for one.

    cheers then
    Jon
